We have a close friend who has had a severe struggle with cancer. After a very serious operation he is still left with inoperable tumours. He wrote these words, “Whenever I feel panic, fear or depression, it is often a sign that I am counting on my own limited and undependable resources, or at least on other insufficient and unreliable human resources, rather than God. I need to learn how to disengage this ‘autoresponse’ or ‘default mode’ which seeks refuge, solace or solutions solely in my own resources. I need to train my heart into the habit of turning to God in dependence and trust; no matter what comes my way. God alone is my ultimate resources and my refuge of absolute security. That’s where I want to be.”

What an incredible aspiration?
